За период, охватываемый этим диском, оркестр Дюка Эллингтона записал девять выступлений (включая вокальную и инструментальную версии "All God's Chillun Got Rhythm"), а комбо под руководством Джонни Ходжеса, Барни Бигарда, Рекса Стюарта и Кути Уильямса, которые в основном были заполнены звездами Эллингтона, составили еще 14 записей. Дюк контролировал все, позволяя своим звездным сайдменам размяться, и результатом стал постоянный поток свежих и качественных записей, которые одновременно вписывались в мейнстрим свинга и выделялись на фоне других групп.
