Об исполнителе (группе)
The Core is one of Norway’s most energetic jazz bands, performing music influenced by John Coltrane’s post-bop and the free quartets of the late ’60s. Their high-energy live performances are the foundations upon which the band has built an international reputation, and critics have been raving about the group’s shows and albums since its founding nearly a decade ago.

The Core: (band)
The Core, one of Norway's most hi-octane jazz bands, come to Jazzland. They have played all the major jazz festivals in the country, and have been lauded for their combination of energetic attack and high quality skills. The music is rooted in the acoustic modal jazz of the 60s, combined with more contemporary grooves grown from funk and rock. The music also is generous, inviting the listener be part of a high-energy journey. And it can be beautiful and sober. This diverse sonic scope, combined with extraordinary stage skills, makes The Core something really special on thethe contemporary jazzscene.
A quote from a review of one of their concerts in Oslo, in October 2004, gives a good description of what to expect from this group, who made their first public performance in 2001: "The Core has everything that jazz in 2004 should have: Energy, generosity and an unstoppable youthfulness giving the impression that each concert could be the last." Office Essentials
The members of The Core comprise some of Norway's new leading jazz artists. The Core started in 1999 at the jazz academy in Trondheim, Norway. Here the quartet, consisting of Steinar Raknes on double bass, saxplayer Kjetil Møster, pianist Erlend Slettevoll and composer and drummer Espen Aalberg, musically fell in love. Having released three raved-about albums to date, they now arrive with their fourth, Office Essentials, at Jazzland.

The Core: (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Core (established 1999 in Trondheim, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz band, known from a series of recordings. It was initiated by the drummer Espen Aalberg, and are performing music in the Coltrane/Shorter tradition.
Their musical expression are rooted in African-American music, with a touch of funk and rock. After releasing the album Vision (2004), with music inspired by Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler and John Coltrane, they followed up with Blue sky (2006), with music composed by Steinar Raknes and Espen Aalberg, and some guitar contributions by Nils-Olav Johansen.
The Core has made their presence at most of the Norwegian Jazz festivals, where they have been joined by a number of guest soloists, such as James Carter, Jonas Kullhammar, Per Johansson and Håkon Kornstad. They were also broadcast on EBU at Tampere (2004). On request from the Norwegian Rikskonsertene and Utenriksdepartementet, they toured India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in 2005. This project was later presented to a Norwegian audience through a cultural exchange tour organized by Rikskonsertene a year later. Participants on both tours were the Indian musicians Fateh Ali (sitar and vocals), Prasanjit Mitra (tablas) and Kanchman Babbar (flute), and released on thealbum The Indian Core (2007).

Об альбоме (сборнике)
from Mystica Music:
On this new recording the critically acclaimed Norwegian contemporary jazz group The Core has joined forces with renowned traditional Indian music performers. The collaboration grew out of a tour of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh by The Core in 2006 , where the found three musical soul mates in the Indian performers Prasenjit Mitra, Kanchman Babbar and Fateh Ali. The desire to play together seemed completely natural as both sets of musicians have a common point of departure in their own folk music and to a large extent utilise improvisation.
The Core consists of five young musicians who met through their dedication to 1960s. Last autumn they were sent to India by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to create a commissioned work together with Prasenjit Mitra, Kanchman Babbar and Fateh Ali. In the course of a week's work they had created sufficient material for an extensive tour of Norway which took place in November 2006. According to the critics this tour was an experience above and beyond the ordinary, a beautiful interaction between saxophone, flute and sitar, and double bass, piano and tablas. The climax was the recording session for this CD which captures the magic of the musical collaboration between East and West with its mix of contemporary jazz and traditional Indian music.
All About Jazz:
In November 2005, The Core toured India, Pakistan and Bangladesh with three prominent Indian players—Fateh Ali on sitar, Kanchman Babbar on bamboo flute, bansuri, and Prasenjit Mitra on tabla. All three are well-versed in classical Indian music. A year later, the three Indian players arrived to Norway for a second tour.
The Indian Core, as this new collaboration was called, opened the Oslo World Music Festival, but this live recording is taken from smaller venues in Trondheim and in Drammem. The collaboration presented new opportunities to The Core's already vast musical vocabulary.
The Core members follow carefully and expand on Babbar's gentle flute lead on the opening piece, "Sol's Fox," and only Møster dares to push it into wilder plains. But on "Punjab Blues" all are ready to take the fast lane; Aalberg and Mitra lay down a driving polyrhythmic basis for Møster and Babbar to alternate fast solos on the soprano saxophone and on the flute, each following the snake lines of the other. "Autumn" begins with Ali delivering a beautiful, meditative sitar solo, and slowly Babbar and Mitra join and repeat the melody. Raknes later joins Ali for a duet passage.
Raknes leads "All Raga" with a simple bass chorus, Babbar joins him with deep flute timbres—that sound like they're paying dues to Use Lateen as much as they do to the Indian tradition—and both of them welcome the other players, who extend the melody with brief solos.
"Agra" is a vehicle for The Core to display its impressive group interplay. Walberg dictates a fast rhythm for Møster and Slettovell's solos, after which Mitra plays a tabla solo that ornaments Walberg's rhythmic ideas with the Indian percussion vocabulary. Ali states the optimistic Indian-tinged theme of the closing "Tirana." Aalberg adds resonating colors with his cymbals, Raknes adds a swinging rhythmic frame, and than Babbar and Møster join with inspired solos.
A beautiful meeting of East and West.
