The music of Jimi Hendrix with three wind instruments is a challenge, or at least a daring undertaking. He had to find the right approach to take ownership of this raw material and knead until that comes out a consistent approach, which does not alter the spirit of the original and is rich enough to justify its existence. Let us say right away, Diary respects all of these specifications by playing "in spirit", not "how to".
For, beyond the totally innovative aspect of his guitar playing for time, which characterizes the music of Hendrix's Fire. Whoever comes out of his amp, not the one who burns his guitar. Fire and a propensity to use the studio as an extension of the instrument design that is found here in the subtle mix of work and the addition of one-time effects on the brass (great distortion on the bugle Sylvain Bardiau on "All Along The Watchtower").
Seven times, compositions of Frederick Matthias Mahler Gastard and inspired by Hendrix and a collective improvisation is the directory of this disc. Thus you navigate between originals and reinterpretations of flowers. The treatment of such rock classics and is encouraging the listener to take pleasure in the game of comparison, here and there, finding the elements of the original redesigned - brass repeating a phrase sung, a guitar riff or a phrase angry escaped in the late sixties, played a Stratocaster upside down ...).
The trio also had the good sense not to retreat into a sort of folklore, playing the conservative card "all three" - no need to develop this kind of detail if the background is sufficiently powerful. His palette is expanded as well, on some songs, by the paraphernalia of the great Denis Charolles, deep voice and assured Rodolphe Burger or his guitar punctuations far from any cliché, and by the addition of various keyboards played by Frederick Gastard. The minutes of the assembly is bluffing on the longest disc title "1983 ... A Merman I Should Turn To Be", which come telescope fresco jazz, rock and funk.

Nostalgia is ready to return to the surface of emotions when it comes to Jimi Hendrix.
However, with the trio's Diary, instrumentation copper at will, found himself in a delirious music well understood, he never tries to reproduce: the compositions of the brilliant left-hander brilliantly diverted, decomposed, recomposed the sauce of this explosive group. Foxy and celebrities, Little blowing, Come! Odysseus Praeludium, illustrations of the pouch and mini-poster * that contains the album, respect, if not the letter, at least the spirit of the psychedelic guitar hero that dominated the Cherokee. And it is!
Because if Jimi Hendrix is ??unsurpassed, who has reinvented the rock only four short years, the intelligence, talent and energy blow crazy about these current musicians who manage to transpose the music otherwise electric and electrifying, still a trio, with humor, placing in the background, the universe lit bands or "cartoons" on Lover Man for example.
On some songs, Denis Charolles that needs no introduction, inventive percussion, apart from the rebound in the world, made, as in If 6 was 9 and Rodolphe Burger sings or disillusioned in his own way and at their own pace. Thus, voice, guitar and percussion mingle with relevance to the trio of blowers. They combine development, rhythm, phrasing and adequate, with a paper clip that growl and alone, hiccups in glissandi and slides, a saxophonist who sends serious bass and a trumpet player who was in the lips.
Lips on fire just gives its title to the album's Diary, comprising Sylvain Bardiau (tp) and Frederic Gastard (bass sax), both found in Grandma's lace **. They have since made their way and met Matthias Mahler (former Spicebones). Those three, it will be understood, do not just up and down the lines, know back in the music without getting an eyeful as long!
All pieces are particularly noteworthy: All along the Watchtower, the lead song, Dylan already taken by Hendrix, drive by Denis Charolles reminds Zappa by these sequences and collages sudden! We also appreciate the beautiful and long speech on this long piece group A Merman I Should Turn To Be, which eyeing the side of chamber jazz or a small orchestra with beautiful lined unite throbbing ostinato.
Finally, we expected the latest title to reserve our opinion, this Villanova Junction, one of the most sober blues of Hendrix and heartbreaking at the end of his concert strangely shifted from Woodstock in the early morning. In a longer version, it retains the essence of music and with this beautiful page that ends the tribute Diary.
The entrance examination is more than successful. Bravo boys!
