Masterful performance at a major boiling point of Puerto Rico.
For those not familiar, the University of Puerto Rico has historically been a starting point of political struggle on the island of Puerto Rico. That is why I believe that the fact that Palmieri chose this place to give a concert says a lot about the man, especially since he has his own rebellious side. As for the music, students were given a tremendous, once in a lifetime spectacle. La Libertad Logica really hit a sweetspot with its heavy, fully charged sound. Muñeca was absolutely monumental, delighting the audience for just over 10 minutes of a clinic put on by all: Palmieri, Quintana and the rest of the band. "The Mod Scene" slows the pace down a bit, this time with a 10 minute jazz session that is hard not to enjoy and as very special plus, has his brother Charlie as a guest performer.
As for the sound quality of the album, I will admit it is not as great as you would want, but as student at the very same place this album was recorded, I know for sure that the location is not the ideal place to record. It was recorded outdoors, right in front a very hollow lobby, in addition to the fact that this was in 1971, when sound technology wasn't as nearly as good as we are used. I think the sound quality is good enough given these facts.
The album is extremely good in my opinion, and anyone who likes Palmieri's music must have this in their collection.
