Ce solitaire ne peut aborder, visiter, défricher le territoire du solo qu'avec une liberté pleine et entière. Pas une liberté de circonstance, une liberté radicale, comme le note si justement Denis Constant dans Jazz Magazine à propos de ce disque, qui permet de produire "un discours pleinement mélodique (...) pas simplement par l'enchaînement des notes formant des lignes légères, faciles à l'oreille, aisément, repérables voire reproductibles, mais grâce à un arsenal de procédés expressifs classiques - inflexion, vibrato, silence, alternance des valeurs, etc. - qui leur donne ainsi la forme d'un récit un peu surréaliste."
