Mauro Ottolini is one of the most important musicians of the new Italian jazz. After leaving the orchestra of the Arena di Verona to pursue his true love, jazz, has quickly established itself as a leader inventive and surprising. At its rise helped the confidence and esteem that other great musicians show for him, as Enrico Rava, Franco D'Andrea, Gianluca Petrella, Francesco Bearzatti, and the great songwriter Vinicio Capossela. Born in Bussolengo (VR) in 1972, he graduated in trombone at the Conservatory of Verona with honors, in 2002 he graduated in Jazz at the Conservatory of Trento with Maestro Franco D Andrea and studied with the great trombonist Steve Turre. Played and recorded with Frank Lacy, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Douglas, Trilok Gurtu, Jan Garbarek, Carla Blay, Steve Swallow, Tony Scott, Han Bennink, Maria Schneider, Gary Valente, Steve Turre, Sean Bergin and many others. Also working with some big names of black music like Grace Jones, Gino Vannelli, Emy Stewart, Joe Bowie (Defunkt). For years Ottolini expresses its eclectic talent as a composer and arranger for projects not only in its name, but also for major formations jazz, rock, pop and avant-garde. He arranged the music of Michael Jackson in the disk of Enrico Rava "On the Dance Floor" (ECM 2012) and music by Lester Bowie for the group of Enrico Rava Parco della Musica Jazz Lab. He supervised the arrangements of sigolo "Sun" for the group Negramaro and some songs on the album "Recreation" including the single "Time does not deceive" by Malika Ayane (Sugar 2012). Ottolini is the creator and leader of many musical projects that develop into real conceptual works trespassing in art forms that are intertwined with his music, as in "Bix Factor" (Parco della Musica in Rome 2012 Egea) made Sousaphonix his ensemble, which contains the short novel "Bix Factor" written in collaboration with Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke. Ottolini has assets of 16 discs to his name a hundred and fifty more collaborations record as a sideman. And 'the creator of three cartoons: Working Man Blues (award winning), Jarry and Chubanga. He has worked as compositire to the realization of the short film "The Break" by the music critic Flavio Massarutto with the direction of the extraordinary Alberto Fasulo and has created the music for the film "Seven Chances" Buster Keaton for the Turin Jazz Festival. Has live soundtrack, with the group of Enrico Rava, the cartoon "Rava Noir" of ALTAN.
Mauro Ottolini has been repeatedly voted by the magazines as the best trombonist and arranger best Italian. In 2012 he was voted by referendum TOP JAZZ Best Musician Italian Sousaphonix while the group is considered by critics one of the best Italian musical realities.
