The Israeli composer and pianist Yitzhak Yedid has created another highlight in his career as a musician with “Reflections Upon Six Images”, his third album on Between the Lines.
Yitzhak can rightly no longer be just called a discovery of new music; instead, born as the son of Syrian-Jewish immigrants in Jerusalem in 1971, he is one of the established greats in the scene. He studied in Boston under Ran Blake and Paul Bley at the New England Conservatory. Today, Yitzhak lives in the city where he was born. He quickly achieved recognition in Israel, recognition that has spread to other parts of the world. Numerous successful tours and prizes have created a reputation for him as one of the most creative living composers.
He merges classical influences and shapes with the improvisation freshness of jazz and music of the Middle East in a very exciting and surprising way in his compositions on “Reflections Upon Six Images”. Fellow musicians, who are among the outstanding artists of the genre, contributed decisively to the project success. Galia Hai studied under Tabea Zimmermann, among others, and has received numerous prizes for her playing on the viola. Ora Boasson Horev is both the first bassist of the “Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem” and also a member of several modern and free jazz bands. The Canadian clarinetist Francois Houle is an established big name in classical music and freely improvised jazz.
