1973 Montreux Jazz Festival
Running simultaneously with the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreux's 7th edition offers the greatest jazz names to spectators at the Congress Center. They'll see and hear Chico Hamilton, Bobby Hutcherson, Barney Kessel, Bill Coleman, Teddy Wilson, Stéphane Grappelli, Sam Rivers, McCoy Tyner, Donald Byrd, Gato Barbieri and Gary Bartz. The Blues are represented by Freddie King, Memphis Slim, Little Milton and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. While Dr. John performs with The Meters and Allen Toussaint as guests, the Gene Ammons and Hampton Hawes concert will allow festival-goers to sample an ensemble of Nat and Cannonball Adderley. Miles Davis makes his first appearance at Montreux; he'll return to the Festival seven times.
