1967 Montreux Jazz Festival
Claude Nobs organizes the first edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival with René Langel and Géo Voumard. The poster is the work of photographer Giuseppe Pino. Topping the Festival bill, Charles Lloyd has just been named « Jazz artist of the year » by Down Beat magazine ; Nobs manages to convince him to come to Montreux, where he performs on the closing night with Ron McClure, Jack DeJohnette and a certain Keith Jarrett on the piano. The Festival organizes its first contest with a dozen competing groups and with Dusko Gojkovic among the prize-winners. The first audio recordings are made by the RTS. So begins a fabulous musical saga on the banks of the Waldensian riviera...
