Alessio Riccio plays exclusively The Metalanguage Unit, a sonorous sculpture conceived and carried out in contribution with Ufip and Drum Sound
It is fruit of a research on timbre, matter, ergonomy and language that, due to a vast spiritual process, inserts itself in the field of the Art of Gesture, uniting acoustic and electronic, sound and space, creativity and accuracy, interpretation and improvisation
This one features Alessio Riccio - drums, percussion, the 'Metalanguage Unit' (a sound sculpture), samples & tapes; with Michel Godard - tuba, Gianluca Petrella - trombone, Mirko Guerrini - flutes, Dianan Torto and Andrea Figallo vocals. We know of tuba great Michel Godard from his numerous appearances on Enja discs, especially his work with Rabih Abou-Khalil. I am unfamiliar with the trombone player, flutist and the vocalists as well, although everyone's playing is marvelous throughout. The music has most mysterious quality, the swell vocals are nicely layered and not made up of words, including some cool vocal drum sounds. Alessio's strong, solid and creative drumming is often at the center of most of these fine pieces, with either some great trombone, tuba or flute soloing added. Both Michel Godard on tuba and Gianluca Petrella on trombone play a number on inspired solos, no doubt we will be hearing from them again. 50 minutes and completely engaging from beginning to the end. - Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery
