“LIVE AT PALLADIUM” This double-CD/DVD album is a recording of one of the concerts that took place at Warsaw's Palladium Club during Aga Zaryan's 2008 concert tour, on which she was joined by musicians who flew in from Los Angeles for the occasion. Aga opted for a somewhat atypical and rather delicate-sounding combination of instruments for the project: guitar, double bass, and percussion. The personel were guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz, and Darryl Jackson on various percussion instruments. The main body of the repertoire was comprised of songs from the albums “Picking Up the Pieces” and “My Lullaby”, some of them with completely new arrangements that took shape over the course of the tour. The recording is recognized as having truly captured the exceptional mood of these concerts, and highlights Aga's fluid ease in performance. Several of the pieces are sung as duets, to the accompaniment of just double bass. Album was welcomed as pure jazz, the essence of it. It was commercial success as well earning triple platinum status!

Live albums are customarily something that consummates a certain period in the creative life of an artist – a kind of summation, complete with applause. The latest CD from Aga Zaryan, a singer who in the course of three years has grown to become the undeniable star of the Polish jazz vocal stage, is not only a recapitulation of this period; it is something more. This is a superb album recorded by an artist who no longer needs to prove anything to anybody, and each note from her and her group can say to us with assurance: behold the beauty that is Music, and what a beautiful thing Jazz is, in its freedom!
The concert was recorded half a year ago at Warsaw's Palladium, where Aga performed accompanied by a top-notch rhythm section made up of Larry Koonse on guitar, Darryl Munyungo Jackson on percussion, and bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz. All three of these musicians are stars within the American jazz community, associated with that country's West Coast scene. Virtually everything has been written about the artistry of our vocalist at this point, but something one could add here is that in several moments of this recording, we hear her in a setting generally regarded as one which requires the highest level of mastery – singing accompanied by only the bass. Aga Zaryan's strong point is her originality, and this isn't strictly a matter of the characteristic timbre of her voice, the lightness of her phrasing, or the melodic nature of her improvisations. She's not a singer who relies on only the tried and true canon of jazz standards; she also ventures into the realm of soul and r 'n' b (Stevie Wonder's “Visions”), as well as Leonard Cohen ballads (“Suzanne”) - the latter being a true hit of hers in terms of interpretation.
“Live” was issued in two versions: a double CD, as well as a DVD + CD edition. This is a well-polished album, in the best sense of that expression, meticulously worked out to the last detail.Piotr Iiwicki, GAZETA WYBORCZA “CO JEST GRANE” – December, 2008This is the latest effort by Aga Zaryan, the vocalist who readers of JAZZ FORUM recognized as Poland's best in 2007. The double-CD album is a recording of a concert that took place at the club Palladium in Warsaw, on May 25th of this year. She was joined by first-rate musicians for the performance, who flew in from Los Angeles especially for the occasion. Aga opted for a somewhat atypical and rather delicate-sounding combination of instruments for this particular project: guitar, bass, and percussion. The quality of group sound these musicians – guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz, and Darryl Jackson on various percussion instruments - are capable of achieving is, to a great extent, a determining factor in the caliber of this recording. The artistry and virtuosity of each player in his own right plays no small role either. But of course, Aga Zaryan is the principal entity here. She sings a number of pieces already familiar to listeners from her earlier albums, but the fluid ease with which she performs them here is amazing. The distinctive nature of these performances was no doubt influenced by the extraordinary atmosphere of this concert, and are proof positive that real jazz interpretations most often come into being when an artist truly feels in contact with their audience. Aga sings superbly! She is able to utilize the original and very jazzy sound of her voice to excellent effect, and the highly engaging way in which she interprets songs is further enhanced by her impeccable pronunciation of their lyrics - with an all but perfect accent (!). I know what Aga is singing about, and that's something I almost never experience with other vocalists (...)
Quite an impression is made on the listener by several mood-rich ballads that feature exquisite solos by Oleszkiewicz and Koonse. Just listen to their beautifully laid-back playing on “Here’s To Life”! Aga also performs several pieces accompanied by only the bass, which is something only the finest of singers are capable of pulling off. If it's done well though, a potent musical effect is guaranteed. The band's pleasingly subdued sound highlights the singer's voice excellently. One can hear its slightest nuances, which isn't necessarily a desirable thing for the average vocalist; but when it's someone who is as good as Aga, they can use it to their advantage. The mood here is truly exceptional, and I regret not having been there to hear the concert in person - but fortunately, it has been captured and preserved on this splendid album.Ryszard Borowski, JAZZ FORUM – October, 2008

“LIVE AT PALLADIUM” This double-CD/DVD album is a recording of one of the concerts that took place at Warsaw's Palladium Club during Aga Zaryan's 2008 concert tour, on which she was joined by musicians who flew in from Los Angeles for the occasion. Aga opted for a somewhat atypical and rather delicate-sounding combination of instruments for the project: guitar, double bass, and percussion. The personel were guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz, and Darryl Jackson on various percussion instruments. The main body of the repertoire was comprised of songs from the albums “Picking Up the Pieces” and “My Lullaby”, some of them with completely new arrangements that took shape over the course of the tour. The recording is recognized as having truly captured the exceptional mood of these concerts, and highlights Aga's fluid ease in performance. Several of the pieces are sung as duets, to the accompaniment of just double bass. Album was welcomed as pure jazz, the essence of it. It was commercial success as well earning triple platinum status!

Live albums are customarily something that consummates a certain period in the creative life of an artist – a kind of summation, complete with applause. The latest CD from Aga Zaryan, a singer who in the course of three years has grown to become the undeniable star of the Polish jazz vocal stage, is not only a recapitulation of this period; it is something more. This is a superb album recorded by an artist who no longer needs to prove anything to anybody, and each note from her and her group can say to us with assurance: behold the beauty that is Music, and what a beautiful thing Jazz is, in its freedom!
The concert was recorded half a year ago at Warsaw's Palladium, where Aga performed accompanied by a top-notch rhythm section made up of Larry Koonse on guitar, Darryl Munyungo Jackson on percussion, and bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz. All three of these musicians are stars within the American jazz community, associated with that country's West Coast scene. Virtually everything has been written about the artistry of our vocalist at this point, but something one could add here is that in several moments of this recording, we hear her in a setting generally regarded as one which requires the highest level of mastery – singing accompanied by only the bass. Aga Zaryan's strong point is her originality, and this isn't strictly a matter of the characteristic timbre of her voice, the lightness of her phrasing, or the melodic nature of her improvisations. She's not a singer who relies on only the tried and true canon of jazz standards; she also ventures into the realm of soul and r 'n' b (Stevie Wonder's “Visions”), as well as Leonard Cohen ballads (“Suzanne”) - the latter being a true hit of hers in terms of interpretation.
“Live” was issued in two versions: a double CD, as well as a DVD + CD edition. This is a well-polished album, in the best sense of that expression, meticulously worked out to the last detail.Piotr Iiwicki, GAZETA WYBORCZA “CO JEST GRANE” – December, 2008This is the latest effort by Aga Zaryan, the vocalist who readers of JAZZ FORUM recognized as Poland's best in 2007. The double-CD album is a recording of a concert that took place at the club Palladium in Warsaw, on May 25th of this year. She was joined by first-rate musicians for the performance, who flew in from Los Angeles especially for the occasion. Aga opted for a somewhat atypical and rather delicate-sounding combination of instruments for this particular project: guitar, bass, and percussion. The quality of group sound these musicians – guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz, and Darryl Jackson on various percussion instruments - are capable of achieving is, to a great extent, a determining factor in the caliber of this recording. The artistry and virtuosity of each player in his own right plays no small role either. But of course, Aga Zaryan is the principal entity here. She sings a number of pieces already familiar to listeners from her earlier albums, but the fluid ease with which she performs them here is amazing. The distinctive nature of these performances was no doubt influenced by the extraordinary atmosphere of this concert, and are proof positive that real jazz interpretations most often come into being when an artist truly feels in contact with their audience. Aga sings superbly! She is able to utilize the original and very jazzy sound of her voice to excellent effect, and the highly engaging way in which she interprets songs is further enhanced by her impeccable pronunciation of their lyrics - with an all but perfect accent (!). I know what Aga is singing about, and that's something I almost never experience with other vocalists (...)
Quite an impression is made on the listener by several mood-rich ballads that feature exquisite solos by Oleszkiewicz and Koonse. Just listen to their beautifully laid-back playing on “Here’s To Life”! Aga also performs several pieces accompanied by only the bass, which is something only the finest of singers are capable of pulling off. If it's done well though, a potent musical effect is guaranteed. The band's pleasingly subdued sound highlights the singer's voice excellently. One can hear its slightest nuances, which isn't necessarily a desirable thing for the average vocalist; but when it's someone who is as good as Aga, they can use it to their advantage. The mood here is truly exceptional, and I regret not having been there to hear the concert in person - but fortunately, it has been captured and preserved on this splendid album.Ryszard Borowski, JAZZ FORUM – October, 2008
