(Swing) Buddy Rich - Very Live at Buddy's Place - 1997, FLAC (tracks+.cue), lossless

I'm not sure if this was remastered or taken from better source tapes, but this release seems to be a bit sharper and cleaner than other releases of this same recording. George Petersen's liner notes are anything but revealing - merely adding his 2 cents on Buddy's career and this recording. There are some additional photos inside, not from this date but from other appearances in the early 70's. In any case, BR fans should already have this CD in their collection and fans of great small-group jazz ensembles will thoroughly enjoy this set, which clocks in at 41:03. Don't expect any drum solos here, just great rhythmic accompaniment. Anthony Jackson is the unsung hero here in my opinion. He grooves in every style and gets some nice moments to show off (check out Billie's Bounce!). I belong in the BR fan category, and while this isn't my all-time favorite album, it is a great diversion from the big-band sound - and sometimes, it just fits the mood perfectly.
