Description:
My fascination of John Coltrane and Zbigniew Seifert is almost as long as my interest in jazz itself. Energy, the great power of expression are the most characteristic features of the music of the two great masters. We would like that our music comprises all those emotional layers that can be found in their music. I believe the energy which emanates from their music and which inspired me to make this record will be well received by music lovers.
This record is the tribute to John Coltrane and Zbigniew Seifert for their music, for how they played, for inspiration. (Mateusz Smoczynski)
"Inspirations" is a debut record of Mateusz Smoczynski's quintet. This album is an acknowledgement to the idols of the group's leader, John Coltrane and Zbigniew Seifert, for their music, the way they played, the people they were and for their inspiration. The art of those two masters is a basis for Mateusz Smoczynski's music which he plays in his own way retaining the original energy and way of expression. Apart from the leader who plays the violin, the quintet consists of his brother, Jan Smoczynski (his compositions are included on the album), Konrad Zemler, Wojciech Pulcyn and Roman Slefarski. Review in Tygodnik Powszechny:
Inspirations is an extraordinary undertaking which is exceptionally fulfilled. It is more interesting which path the band is going to take in the future. And the future is very complex in this case - Adam Poprawa
Review in Jazz Forum:
A legendary model, brilliant realisation and maybe a forecast for a jazz sensation quite soon! I give four stars with a huge plus - Tomasz Szachowski
