Zsolt Kaltenecker was born on October 12th, 1970. His family includes other musicians and artists, which both helped and hindered him in his development. He didn't decide too early to become a musician, but once he had made his mind became totally committed and remains so to this day. Then he attended the jazz-piano department of the Liszt Ferenc University of Musical Arts, followed by studies in New York with Jaki Byard. However, Zsolt Kaltenecker's albums, the reviews of these and his music say more about him than the bare biographical details.

A 2001 végén kiadott Rainy Films című triólemezen már egy teljesen új Kaltenecker Trió-val találkozhatunk (Kaltenecker Zsolt - zongora, Barcza Horváth József - bőgő, Mohai András - dob), s a klasszikus akusztikus formáció zenéjében is eltér az eddig megszokottól. Kaltenecker hű maradt egyéni, progresszív main-stream-es stílusához, az új lemez hangvétele mégis némileg klasszikusabb, szakít a korábbi felállások rockos játékmódjával. A hallható művek mindenesetre kompozíciójukban és ritmikailag is összetettek, aprólékosan kidolgozottak. A hangnem- és ütemváltásokban gazdag témák érzelemdús előadását a sehol sem öncélú, hibátlan zongoraszólók színesítik. Kaltenecker Zsolt virtuozitása ezen a lemezen is megmutatkozik, ám Barcza lenyűgöző bőgőkísérete és Mohai precíz ütemdiktálása sem szürkül a háttérbe: egy-egy szólóban ők is megcsillogtatják tehetségüket. Az albumon a négy Kaltenecker szerzemény mellett négy standardet találunk, amik noha nagyon jólsikerült, igényes feldolgozások, az ember mégis kicsit sajnálja, hogy nem hallhat több saját számot az együttestől. Mindazonáltal például az „Autumn Leaves” vagy a „Summer Night” biztosan külföldön is kelendőbbé teszi az ott még egyelőre ismeretlen trió lemezét, ezáltal is öregbítve a fiatal magyar jazzgeneráció hírnevét. Aki laikusként kóstol bele az effajta zenébe, annak a Rainy Films könnyen befogadható, modern felfogású számai kitűnő kezdetét jelenthetik a jazzel való későbbi barátkozásnak.
