Escalandrum was born in March 1999 by the restlessness of Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla to form a group able to give the jazz contemporary color your music Argentina. The group's name comes from the combination of "escalandrún" (an Argentine species of shark that Piazzolla enjoyed fishing con his father and his grandfather Daniel Astor) and "drum" ('drum' in English).
The sextet consists of: Daniel Pipi Piazzolla (drums), Nicolas Gueschberg (piano), Damian Fogiel (tenor sax), Martin Pantyrer (baritone sax and bass clarinet), Mariano Sivori (bass) and Gustavo Musso (tenor and soprano sax). The interview, conducted by journalist Ricardo Carossino, was granted by the musicians Pipi Piazzolla and Nicolas Gueschberg.

It slopes carrying a name forever linked to tango, chose to play jazz. And carrying the genes of a symbol of the bandoneon, was decided by the battery.
Beyond mandates, beyond the name, Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla form Escalandrum in 1999 to enjoy the music made friends. The group's name comes from the combination of escalandrún (one shark species Argentina "Pipi" fishing with his father Daniel (family business started by his grandfather Astor) and drum ('drum' in English).
Along with his first performances in 2000 Escalandrum released his first album, Bar Los Amigos. From 2002 the group turns to acoustic format and record Altered States, successfully presented at the ND / Ateneo de Buenos Aires theater. The album is distributed by the French label Milan Records.
With their third album, Sexteto moving Escalandrum longer "revelation" to be confirmed as one of the best exponents of jazz made in Argentina. The group departs from the known ways to integrate gender rhythms and folk airs.
The bet pays off: In 2005 the press chooses Escalandrum as the No. 1 local jazz band; Konex Foundation and ranking the group among the 100 most important figures of the last decade of popular music Argentina.
In 2006 reached their fourth album, Misterioso. A solid, mature record, where individuals work depending on the group. The sextet manages to capture that special study chemistry that comes only playing with friends. Mysterious takes the original definition of Escalandrum: A group of friends enjoying making music.
Escalandrum presented to Mysterious throughout Argentina in 2006, playing in Ser. theaters as well as the most eclectic festivals; Jazz overcoming barriers. In 2007 the group will represent the country at the prestigious Festival of Providence in Chile and in July party to an extensive European tour.

Although he knew the word “Piazzolla” and “Tango” would be forever bonded, he decided to played jazz. In spite of being his grandfather a “bandoneon” icon, he chose drums.
Beyond family traditions, Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla created Escalandrum in 1999 to celebrate music among friends. The group’s name is a neologism that came out of mixing escalandrun (an argentine kind of shark whom “Pipi” used to fish with father Daniel and grandfather Astor) and drum.
Along with the first gigs, in 2000 Escalandrum edited its first record, Bar Los Amigos (Friend’s Bar). Two years later, the group changed to an acoustic instruments lineup and recorded Estados alterados (Altered States). The album deserved excellent press reviews and was distributed in Europe by Milan Records.
With its third CD, Sexteto en movimiento (Sextet on the Move), released in 2003, Escalandrum grew from “Best New Band” to one of the best Argentinean jazz performers. The sextet traced its own musical path by combining argentine folklore and jazz rhythms and textures.
This musical growth was acknowledged by media: In 2005 Escalandrum was awarded “Best Argentinean Jazz Band”; also Konex Foundation ranked it among the Top 100 Best Argentine Popular Music Artists of the decade.
In 2006 Escalandrum edited its fourth album, Misterioso (Mysterious). It is indeed a more mature, solid work. The sextet delivered on tape the special magic that only appears when music is made among friends. Misterioso fulfills Escalandrum original statement: Just a bunch of friends performing and celebrating music.
