Art Ensemble of Chicago
К моменту создания знаменитого "Ансамбля" за плечами его музыкантов был уже весьма солидный опыт работы. Наконец, в мае 1967 года заявил о себе "Mitchell Art Ensemble" - фактически, предтеча "the Art Ensemble of Chicago". Участниками "Mitchell Art Ensemble" помимо Митчела были Лестер Боуи, Малачи Фэйворс и барабанщик Филипп Уилсон (Phillip Wilson). Мне точно не известна причина, по которой вся четвёрка отправилась в Европу. Возможно, они просто решили попытать счастья там, где им были рады. С одной стороны, в Европе (как и всегда в подобных случаях, когда происходит "экспорт" и ассимилирование другими странами того или иного культурного явления) авангардный джаз всё ещё продолжал находиться в чести и почёте. Кстати, именно в Европе "экспериментальные", "авангардные" джазовые концерты стали объединяться с театрализованными шоу - фактически, образовывалось синтетическое музыкально-драмматическое действо (куда зачастую входила и авангардная футуристическая поэзия), эдакое модернистское наследие Брехта. Например, в Нидерландах в этом направлении работал ансамбль Уильяма Брюкера, чьи концерты на
Более того - Митчел и Фэйворс также успели поиграть вместе в "Экспериментальной группе" пианиста и кларнетиста Мугала Ричарда Эбрамса ("Muhal Richard Abrahams Experimental Band"). Они же были среди основателей "Ассоциации творческого роста музыкантов" ("Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians"), появившейся в 1965 году в Чикаго.
