2011 The Funk Ark - From The Rooftoops [CD]

Classified as a world funk combo, The Funk Ark has deep roots in many of the elements associated with Afrobeat. Hailing from Washington, D.C., the band has a clear understanding of the music whose roots it pays homage to a half world away. One listen to “El Beasto” shows you why they’re a strong frontrunner in the resurgence of the Afrobeat genre. The powerful horns ride over an equally powerful drum beat. Will Rast’s work on the keys provides a glue that makes it all stick together. A simple but effective shouting of the title drives this song to excellency.
