About Golden Years of New Jazz
About Golden Years
Leo Records celebrated its 20th. anniversary and the New Millenium by launching a new label entitled "Golden Years of New Jazz".
In terms of aesthetics, it is different from both Leo Records and Leo Lab. The idea behind this label is to remind music followers that the so-called New Jazz, Free Jazz, or New Music is at least forty years old. This aesthetic has got its own history and traditions, and it is here to stay.
Our aim is to document and preserve for posterity some of the golden moments of this artistic movement. There is no doubt that some of the titles will have historic significance.
Golden Years will be releasing about eight new CDs a year. We have licensed the catalogue of the Greek label "Praxis" and acquired recordings by Sun Ra, Art Ensemble of Chicago, John Tchicai, etc. We intend to bring out timeless recordings by Marilyn Crispell, Amina Claudine Myers, The Ganelin Trio, Eugene Chadbourne, and other musicians from different parts of the world whose music has become a part of the history of new jazz.
Golden Years has entirely different packaging too. Although the production of this new packaging is much more expensive we decided to say "goodbye" to the dreadful plastic jewel box. We shall not be a part in polluting the planet. The new packaging format is called "digifile". It is light, strong and beautiful; and our new label will be instantly identifiable by its unifying design.
