Fantastic Plastic Machine – практически один человек, очень популярный в Японии музыкант и ди-джей Томоюки Танака. Когда-то он был басистом в группе Margarine Strikes Back. Позже собрал вместе несколько ди-джеев под вывеской Sound Impossible. Идею создания Fantastic Plastic Machine, говорят, ему подсказал его коллега Towa Tei (из Deee-Lite). Было это в конце 90-х. С тех пор пластинки Танаки пользуются огромной популярностью во всем мире.
Fantastic Plastic Machine а так же многим известным во всем мире японским коллективам (Pizzicato Five) свойственна работа в стиле shibuya-kei.
Shibuya-kei – у нас этот стиль «расшифровывается» как смесь босса-новы, новой французской поп-музыки и easy listening. Феномен японской поп-музыки с таким названием вышел из суперфешенебельного района в западном Токио Сибуя, где расположены одни из самых лучших музыкальных магазинов в мире. Имя района было затем дано ряду японских поп-музыкантов, появившимся из этой потребительской культуры, при этом впитавших в себя продукцию западной поп-музыки.
