Он умер в Маунт Синай Хоспитэл в Нью-Йорке, вследствие серьёзного недостатка печени и внутреннего кровоизлияния, вызванного его застарелой язвой желудка... Aльбом «You Must Believe In Spring» был записан Биллом Эвансом вместе с контрабасистом Эдди Гомесом и барабанщиком Элиотом Зигмундом в 1977 году, но вышел в свет только после смерти великого пианиста.
