L'attachement de la pianiste, compositrice, arrangeuse Leïla Olivesi à Duke Ellington s'entend dès les premiers accords de Danse pour Néfertiti, qui ouvre son troisième album. Et encore dans Prelude to a kiss, qui le clôt, en solo, sur une nouvelle promesse avec cette capiteuse mélodie, l'une des inoubliables du répertoire ellingtonien. Mais si le Duke règne sur la planète musicale où la jeune Franco-Mauritanienne a choisi de vivre et de créer, c'est à la façon d'un soleil africain au crépuscule.
Baignée dans la culture berbère la plus exigeante, rendue plus fervente encore par l'apprentissage du jazz dès l'enfance dans la formation des P'tits Loups, la reine Leïla se reconnaît avec humour et tendresse dans la postérité d'épouses royales à la terrassante beauté, comme Tiy et Néfertiti. Mais son autorité à elle s'exerce par la seule force de la douceur couplée à l'amour. Son toucher délicat émeut d'autant plus que le style évoque parfois Mal Waldron et ses phrases anguleuses. Avec Yoni Zelnik à la contrebasse, fondamental, et Donald Kontomanou, styliste de la batterie fourmillante et crépitante de beauté sonore, Leïla peut se fier à ses propres compositions pour nous attacher durablement. Quand se joignent au trio le guitariste Manu Codja, le saxophoniste soprano Emile Parisien, le flûtiste et percussionniste Niko Coyez, le périple philosophique tourne à l'espièglerie aventureuse pour notre vif bonheur.

BIO :
Pianist and composer, Leïla Olivesi started at age 13 with the choir "Les P’tits Loups du Jazz". She graduated in jazz and classical music from the conservatory and from IACP.
She created the Brahma Sextet wich was nominated best band at the Montmartre Jazz Festival in 2002 and received 3 "Trophées du Sunside" in 2003. In 2004 they recorded the CD «Frida» with the support of SACEM.
Leïla participates in other bands playing jazz and world music, such as the cuban salsa band Metiswing and the Sebastien Llado quartet.
