A native of New York City and living in Switzerland, Robert Dick has achieved international recognition for creating a rich new musical language for his instrument – the flute. He plays the full range of flutes – from the giant, stand-up contrabass flute up through bass flutes in F and C, alto flute, concert flute and piccolos – including his own striking invention, the "glissando headjoint." His musical life is dedicated to composition, improvisation, master-class teaching, publication, and work on re-designing the flute itself. Several of his compositions have become classics in the contemporary flute repertoire. He played with Steve Lacy, John Zorn, George Lewis, Evan Parker and many others and can be heard on more than 20 discs. Dick received the Lucerne Music Prize in 1996 and had his ENJA debut the following year with the highly acclaimed album "Jazz Standards on Mars."
"Sic Bisquitus Disintegrat" is the second release by the A.D.D. Trio, one of several unlikely ensembles Dick is working with. The group's guitar player, Irish-born Christy Doran, previously proved his virtuosity with Om (1972-1982), Red Twist & Tuned Arrow (1985-1987) and his Tribute to Jimi Hendrix (1991-1994). Drummer Steve Argüelles, hailing from Birmingham (England), is known for playing and recording with a surprisingly wide variety of artists such as The Recyclers, Steve Lacy, Django Bates, Tony Coe, Nguyên Lê, Billy Jenkins, Dudu Pukwana, Lee Konitz, and Alexander Balanescu. "Each of us can orchestrate to the full (...) because we've got the space," says Argüelles regarding the A.D.D. Trio's open concept. Starting from the soul of a musical idea, the three of them are always animated by the imperative to develop and evolve their music in an original and concentrated way.
