I know the title is a very lame pun but this was brilliantly conceived and executed concept designed by label boss Creed Taylor. He had a roster of fine musicians on his label and was party of a long line collective albums involving the likes of Joe Farrell, John McLaighlin, Ronnie Foster et al. I used to have several LPs featuring these and others such as Ron Carter (all long since lost much to my regret). Some of my friends complained that some of it sounded a bit like test card music. This was perhaps because of the funky and latin influences (note here Paulinho DaCosta and Dave Grusin feature) on some of that music. This is so much more than that though, it is fusion jazz without boundries and it glories in the freedom that this gives it. There are no egos trying to take control here and the mood goes from mellow of Suneshine Lady to the climactic guitar bass workout of Taxi Blue. I am no fan of George Michael but he did have a great title for an album that applies here; Listen Without Prejudice and you will be rewarded.
