Havana-born Latin music legends Candido & Graciela are 2 of the survivors of the Cubop movement of the late 1940s, which fused Cuban rhythms with big-band jazz. These masters of the art bring a unique style & easy camaraderie to this new recording, highlighted by Graciela’s call-&-response interplay with the band & Candido’s subtle wizardry on the conga drums. What you have is inolvidable, unforgettable.
Long before Celia Cruz was anointed the Queen of Salsa, Graciela was the 1st Lady of Latin Jazz. She is best-known as the lead vocalist for Machito & his Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra from 1943 through the 70s. Candido has collaborated with almost all of the great jazz masters, including Clark Terry, Dinah Washington, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Mongo Santamaria, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, & Tito Puente.
