Saxophonist Pete Wareham's Hendrix-inspired Acoustic Ladyland are one of the leading lights from the adventurous and explosive young bands currently causing a buzz on the contemporary jazz and live club scene. After a rousing Jerwood Rising Star performance at 2004's Cheltenham Jazz Festival causing a mad rush for preview copies of the new CD, Acoustic Ladyland released their debut Camouflage on London's leading independent label Babel. Under the umbrella of the London F-IRE Collective that has supported the long term development and exposure of Acoustic Ladyland among others including Babel's Polar Bear, these young genre-benders engage in cutthroat improvisation with the raw force and attitude of rock music interacting with a wide spectrum of latin/funky/ post-Coltrane jazz . With tributes to underground rock greats such as Nico and the Velvet Underground and new generation bands such as the Strokes and Radiohead, Acoustic Ladyland bridge the gap between jazz groups and jam bands such as Medeski, Martin and Wood. They also feature some of the most exciting young improvisers on the UK scene. Pete Wareham, a former young jazz musician of the year, and also a member of drummer Seb Rochford's Polar Bear, bassist Tom Herbert co-leads Jade Fox and was part of the recent Future Sounds of Jazz tour. drummer Seb Rochford is up for two BBC Jazz Awards: best newcomer and best band and leads his own band Polar Bear, who released their debut on Babel earlier this year.Pianist/ electric keys Tom Cawley young jazz musician of the year 1998, and has his own trio.
