Two or three takes of a single tune are placed in groups that evidence the alto saxophonist's indefatigable determination to never cover the same thematic ground in a solo twice. Unlike THE IMMORTAL CHARLIE PARKER, which is geared toward relative newcomers, this volume of CHARLIE PARKER MEMORIAL is aimed directly at the Parker obsessive. Much of the material here is previously unreleased, and there's a strong emphasis on what the liner notes call "short takes," or false starts, breakdowns, and rehearsals.
