Early on she listened to music on records and live, as performed by her parents. Her father, Bruno Buczek, played trombone with top Polish jazz groups - The Wichary Orchestra, Warsaw Stompers, The Pagart and Stodola Big Bands, and Swing Session. Her mother, Krystyna Buczek, played vibraphone in Klipsy, Poland's first all-female jazz-oriented instrumental group. Vivian is graduated from the Malmö Music Academy as vocal jazz educator.
