No genre boundaries or predestined rules, but still anchored in some of the greatest 20th century composers.LaGaylia has added something new in my music, no doubt about that", says Jan Lundgren who has been an well-established jazz musician since the early 90's."I want to sing like Jan plays", says LaGaylia Frazier, one of Sweden's most acclaimed soul singers.They met in different music contexts from 2000 and ahead, but it wasn't until 2010 that they decided that it was about time to work together. Jan Lundgren is a great sheet music collector and their collaboration started with digging deep into his archive.They tried hundreds of tunes and finally found a bundle of songs that they started to work with. The selected songs are exciting. With some exceptions there are lesser known tunes, composed by American composers during the mid 20th century. "A period of time", Jan Lundgren explains, "when there was many brilliant composers that could write popular music as well". Music with underlying harmonies that is good for improvising, just perfect for Jan.For LaGaylia Frazier the lyrics was crucial. "Good lyrics", she says, "that open your eyes for life around us, that makes us see things in another way that we are not used to". LaGaylia has a very personal feeling for the lyrics and she really express that in these songs.The songs on this album has been sung by artists such as Peggy Lee, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Barbara Streisand. "They sang with their own personal touch", says Jan Lundgren. Jan Lundgren and LaGaylia Frazier perform the songs in their own way, far away from the traditional way of singing covers.
