Louisiana Sunday Afternoon   Об исполнителе (группе) Laura has singed for all her life, but her professional carrer started in 85’, when she formed the duet PIANOGROSSO with mexican keyboardist Juan Pablo Garciadiego. They recorded an album called “BLISS” and played concerts all around Spain, performing as supporting artists for people like RAY CHARLES (Bullfighting arena, Gerona, 85’). After “Pianogrosso” she moved to jazz clubs where she performed with different piano players and learned the jazz repertoire. At the mythic “LA COVA DEL DRAC” in Barcelona she performed with TONY SCOTT and made a record called “JAZZ AL DRAC. VOL. 1” who tried to capture the jam session spirit of this time (Dec. ´87 ). During 88’ and 89’ she performed at “Regine´s” with local pianist LUCKY GURI, and played with her new band “LAURA SIMÓ & CONRAD SETÓ SOUND”, with whom she was selected to perform in Paris at the MARS FESTIVAL. She sang with the jazz band “HOMENATGE A COLE PORTER” with a repertoire of Cole Porter´s songs. She sang also with pianist-composer JORDI SABATÉS and a chamber quintet in a show of the trobadour´s songs of XII and XIII centuries. She has performed also with JUAN CARLOS CALDERÓN BIG BAND. In 93’ she performed at the PALAU DE LA MUSICA CATALANA with the BARCELONA BIG BAND. She formed the band ESTAMOS REUNIDAS with singer CARME CANELA, a funk-fussion oriented group, and they toured all over the country. Also in 94’ she began to sing with TETE MONTOLIU and his trío and toured over Europe. She started a sextet in 95’ and in 96’ she made her first C.D. as a lider, called “THE BEST IS YET TO COME-LIVE AT JAMBOREE”. In 98’ she designed a show with STEVIE WONDER`s songs and performed around Spain. In 99’ she presented her work “ LAURA SIMÓ DE CINE: MY FAVOURITE THINGS”, a C.D: containing 14 songs that were written for movies or theater plays. This is an intimate record, where she is backed only by an electric guitar an a double bass In 2000 she sang at the Auditori of Barcelona with the O.B.C. orchestra songs from a german composer WILHEIM GROSS. Also in 00’ she presented her last work EUROPEAN CINEMA SONGS, with the collaboration of the ENSEMBLE OF BELLATERRA, directed by a great musician ELADIO REINON. This performance took place on december 2nd at the XXXII Barcelona Jazz Festival. In 02’ she keeps on performing with her show DE CINE (american cinema songs)but adding a drummer on stage. On march, she presents a work with FRANCESC CAPELLA, piano and voice, doing songs Miles Davis used to perform. She opens the 50th San Sebastián Cinema Festival with this group. ALBERT GUINOVART, classical piano player and composer, invites her to collaborate on a recording of the world-known guitarrist JOAQUIN RODRIGO, done by EMI. She does a little tourné around Catalunya with her show EUROPEAN MUSICAL AND CINEMA SONGS, from 25 to 31 of october, and finishes in Barcelona, L’Espai, where she records live her second C.D, “SENZA FINE”. The 14 of november she presents a new show decicated to one of the most important singers and writers of Catalunya, Joan Manuel Serrat. She shares the stage with a great piano player, FRANCESC BURRULL, who was arrenger and performer of this artist. Politically involved, in 03’ she performs in the concert “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE”, against the war of Irak, joying a great number of first musicians of Spain. In juny 03’ appears her third C.D. “SENZA FINE”. She shares stage with MANEL CAMP and tours round Catalunya with their show “TENDERLY”. In 04’ presents LAURA SIMÓ & FRANCESC CAPELLA TRIO, a jazz project which one she tours round Spain. Beside her performings, she accepts to be the producer of a Swiss TV program SIMPLY-LUXURIOUS, a view of her city through people that are involve in the culture and design of Barcelona: Custo Dalmau, Ferrán Adrià, Pol Borrás, Jaume Tresserra, Rosa Gil or Alfons Vilallonga. She invites the saxophon player, Victor de Diego, to joint her on stage and be part of MY FAVOURITE THINGS’ concerts. At the same time she works with the pianist JOAN MONNË in his project of the DROP BIG BAND and QUÒDLIBET CHORAL. In October she joints ALBERT GUINOVART, LA ORQUESTRA SIMFÒNICA DEL VALLÉS, and his diretctor EDMON COLOMER, and do several recitals of american and catalan musicals on the most important theatres in Catalunya, such as El Palau de la Música. At the end of october she flyes to Erfurt (East Germany) to do a Workshop and two jazz concerts with a german jazz trio: Marcus Horn (drums), Steffen Heinze (piano) and Mathias Eichhorn (bass). In 05’, during the TERRASSA JAZZ FESTIVAL she plays with JORDI PORTAZ (bass) and JOAN VINYALS (guitar) doing a concert looking over her career. Performs again with ALBERT GUINOVART and LA ORQUESTRA SIMFÒNICA DEL VALLES. In October she sings in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s Festival Spanjazz with the GRAN CANARIA BIG BAND, does a BOLEROS concert in LUXEMBOURG, and flyes again to Erfurt to perform with MARCUS HORN TRIO in the JAZZMEILE of Thüringen. On Christmas’ time, she presents a new show dedicated to composers and singers from the 80’, sharing stage with her favourite players JOAN VINYALS, FRANCESC CAPELLA, JORDI PORTAZ and DAVID SIMÓ. She tours on 06’ with this new project. Beside it she records the album “NOMËS SERRAT” with FRANCESC BURRULL, at SGAE recording studio in Barcelona. She does the third JAZZMEILE in Thüringen, with MARCUS HORN, STEFFEN HEINZE and MATHIAS EICHHORN, performing during three weeks in differents cities. MATHIAS EICHHORN invites her to sing with his WEIMAR BIG BAND. The 26 of desember she performs in ISTAMBUL, Turky, with Joan Vinyals, Ignasi Zamora, David Gómez and Victor de Diego, presenting her album MY FAVOURITE THINGS. 2007 begins in France, with ALBERT GUINOVART and the SYMPHONIC ORQUESTRA of MONTPELLIER, where they offer a concert of American and Catalan Musicals. Laura finishes the production of her last cd with Francesc Burrull, “Laura Simó I Francesc Burrull interpreten Serrat”, with STRESS MUSIC. They present this new work in septemeber at LUZ DE GAS. She goes to Las Palmas to record another album with LA GRAN CANARIA BIG BAND. 2008 – Performs with Burrull in EL PALAU DE LA MÚSICA, for the 100 aniversary of that historical monument. Presents a new show in L’AUDITORI, Barcelona: “50 raons” with his quintet, JOSEP M.DURAN (piano), JOAN VINYALS (guitar), GUILLERMO PRATS (double and electric bass) and DAVID SIMÓ (drums), with the collaboration of FRANCESC BURRULL and LA GRAN CANARIA BIG BAND. She flies to Erfurt to perfofm with MARCUS HORN TRIO. Travels also to Las Palmas, to present the new album with the Big Band. 2010 - Records a new CD with Francesc Burrull: “Temps de pluja”. Laura is a very active artist, and she has performed in almost all the spanish versions of Disney and Dreamworks’ movies.
