Об альбоме (сборнике)This jazz fusion album's recognition is minimal: it was named best keyboard-oriented album of 1984 by Keyboard Magazine. But if you like sparkling piano and atmospheric synthesizer sounds of this era, it is worth a spin. The album opens with the lazily idyllic "The Picnic," followed by the more energetic "Celestial Body." Both tracks are heavy on synth, but the latter features nice drum work by Alex Acuna and piano riffs from Dan. The popular title track blends piano and synth more evenly, and weaves piano and synth around some strong synth chords. "Dark Star" returns to the hearts of space, and is a pleasant listen. "Where Are You Now" is somewhat forgettable. Patrick O'Hearn's compositions "New Jungle" and "A Sentimental Memory" are more minimal tracks. Alex shines with superior percussion on the former, while the soft emotions of the latter fit very well with Dan's keyboard style and stellar themes of the album. "Little Creek" dribbles out the end of the album on a happy note.
While this album's majestic sweeps lack compositional sophistication, several tunes are distinctive and fun and the album survives multiple listenings by its use of layers of synth and percussion, with an appropriate blend of gentle bass work. The album should appeal to fans of light early 80's fusion, particularly those fond of keyboards and heart-of-space themes. It is upbeat and generally cheerful.
