The album has 2 long & 2 shorter tracks of electrifying modern jazz. You get powerful & thrilling music with breathtaking solos, interplay & improvisation, even if for only 33 mins.. For each of the quintet members this V.S.O.P. period was, IMHO, a highlight in their career. A 5 star band! Everyone except Carter wrote 1 of the titles, demonstrating their great skills as composers. Discogs review by Globe199 April 21, 2011: This is a decent jazz record made by the same quintet that recorded Live Under the Sky a couple days prior. It’s performed well, is listenable & pleasant, but not all that interesting. Unfortunately, that’s typical of most of the VSOP recordings. They were sort of reliving the hard-bop (or post-bop) days of the mid-60s. The groups led by Miles, Herbie, Shorter, & Hubbard all made this style of jazz back then; it’s always nice to hear it, but this group wasn’t breaking any new ground. As a result, none of their records made a huge impact. Most of them went unreleased outside Japan until recently. http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/4821
