Along with jazz, he studied classical piano with Leonidas Lipovetsky at Florida State University, then earned a master’s degree from the University of Miami. In 1999, Martin finished third in the prestigious Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and qualified to attend the famed Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Colony. Then he got seriously busy. Ten years ago, at the prodding of renowned drummer Ignacio Berroa, Martin Bejerano joined that near-obligatory jazz musician’s migration to New York to see just where he stood with his talent. Venerable drummer Roy Haynes selected him to join his new Fountain of Youth band where Martin flourishes to this day as he tours the globe with this legendary figure. Martin also joined guitarist Russell Malone’s quartet, and continues to tour and record with both groups as he strives to carve out a solo career with his own trio. He recorded an exceptional debut CD, Evolution/Revolution (2007, Reservoir) that was reviewed on the South Florida JAZZ website. His trio features Edward Perez on bass and Ludwig Afonso on drums. Martin astonishes audiences across the world with his extraordinary piano technique. But more importantly, he couples a highly modern harmonic and rhythmic concept with his overarching commitment to lyricism and musicality, creating a truly expressive approach to improvisation. Bejerano has created a unique style that continues to evolve. While apparently influenced by Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, and perhaps Brad Mehldau, his concept is original, not derivative, the kiss of death for a maturing talent. He has held his own on the bandstand with Kenny Garrett, James Moody, Jimmy Heath, and also young lions like Marcus Printup and Marcus Strickland, and has not been intimidated; but in fact he has thrived and grown.     Об альбоме (сборнике) "Add Martin Bejerano to the expanding roster of hot young pianists that stretches from Hiromi Uehara and Eldar Djangirov to Robert Glasper and Taylor Eigsti...The other young guns should watch out for this guy." -Steve Greenlee (Jazz Times) “When technique, an advanced harmonic sense and lyrical playfulness meet on a plane of self-control, as is heard in Martin Bejerano, one has to marvel. A brilliant, young Miami-born pianist who lives in New York, and who is a highlight in bands led by Roy Haynes and Russell Malone, Bejerano has shaped his own post-Corea/Jarrett/Zeitlin blend with Cuban influences." - Zan Stewart (Newark Star Ledger) “Bejerano makes the most of a full and fluent style.” - Nate Chinen (New York Times) "Bejerano’s trio is so accomplished and is so like-minded in their pursuit of the essence of the music that without information about the members, one would expect it to have the maturity of musicians twice their age...Bejerano, while informed of the jazz tradition, creates his own rhythmic and harmonic pathways for an original and delightful musical journey. Martin Bejerano, thankfully, reminds us once again that jazz and the piano trio format are alive and thriving with freshness and creative vitality." - Don Wiliiamson (Jazzreview.com) “Bejerano makes the most of a full and fluent style.” - Nate Chinen (New York Times) "Martin Bejerano on the piano demonstrates breadth, imagination and control." - Jonathan Funke (New York Press) “…versatility reminiscent of Brad Mehldau and Chick Corea…” - Adam Gold (Boston Phoenix.com) “…this promising young pianist is not just the latest hotshot showing off his technique, but a mature pianist who can develop his ideas into performances that will stand the test of time.” - Ken Dryden (All Music Guide) On Potential Energy, the much-anticipated follow-up to his acclaimed debut recording Evolution/Revolution (2007), pianist Martin Bejerano once again displays the instrumental virtuosity, improvisational versatility, intricate rhythmic concepts and the lyricism and musicality that have attracted a global following. Anchored by the 3-part “Potential Energy Suite,” written after Bejerano was awarded a New Jazz Works composition and ensemble development grant from Chamber Music America in 2010, the new CD features the pianist’s working trio he formed in 2007 with bassist Edward Perez and drummer Ludwig Afonso and, on four tracks, soprano saxophonist Mark Small, a veteran of singer Michael Bublé’s band with whom Bejerano has often collaborated since the two moved to NewYork in 2000. “I’ve been working on my writing a lot the past few years and wanted this album to be more about compositions than piano ‘chops’ which is one reason I expanded the group to include sax,” Bejerano explains. “I was interested in and challenged by the idea of creating a big powerful sound out of a relatively small group and the suite serves as a jumping off point for the entire project and is complemented by the energy of the other tracks.” The trio's performance of the suite was recently featured on NPR's nationally syndicated show "Jazz Set with Dee Dee Bridgewater", featuring the New York City premiere of the work at Symphony Space. In addition to his work as a leader, Bejerano is a veteran sideman of the New York jazz scene, and has been a member of the quartets of drummer Roy Haynes and guitarist Russell Malone with whom he has toured internationally and recorded for over a decade. He has also recorded and/or performed with Christian McBride, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, Ignacio Berroa, Lonnie Plaxico, Bryan Lynch, Adam Nussbaum, Arturo Sandoval, the Mingus Big Band and Marcus Strickland, among others. Bejerano currently heads the jazz piano department at the University of Miami.     Состав Martin Bejerano - piano Mark Small - soprano sax Edward Perez - bass Ludwig Afonso - drums
