Son trio comprend Diego Imbert à la contrebasse et Pierre-Alain Goualch au piano. Ce dernier surprend par les belles couleurs qu’il tire de son piano, l’élégance de voicings toujours chantants. La contrebasse tient souvent un rôle mélodique, et le batteur nous régale par son drive fin et puissant, par son tempo toujours musical, des rythmes souples qu’il fait parfaitement respirer. On goûtera les harmonies aériennes de Dansez sur moi, Cécile, Tu verras (adaptation de O Que Será, beau thème de Chico Buarque qui le chante en duo avec Milton Nascimento dans “Geraes“, un album, de ce dernier). Dans Je suis sous, Goualch introduit volontairement de nombreuses dissonances pour évoquer l’ivresse. L’arrangement de Nougayork, conserve la modernité initiale du morceau, le Fender Rhodes lui donnant d’autres timbres. L’instrument reste toutefois difficile à personnaliser. L’Américain Kevin Hays est un des très rares pianistes à en tirer un son original et Goualch s’en tire plus qu’honorablement. Dans plusieurs plages, le trio se pousse un peu et laisse chanter David Linx qui fait merveille ici. Avec lui, Il faut tourner la page, The Meeting Place of Water (une version anglaise d’Eau douce dont Aldo Romano a composé la musique) et Mademoiselle Maman acquièrent une vraie plénitude poétique. Chanteur très complet, Linx démontre sa grande technique du scat dans Une petite fille en pleurs et dans une très jolie reprise de Tendre, une composition de Toots Thielemans. Le DVD qui accompagne le CD audio est moins passionnant avec un solo de batterie de plus de treize minutes, brillant mais un peu long, donné dans le cadre d’une master class non chapitrée. Pas pratique pour retrouver les duos de Dédé avec Rémi Vignolo à la contrebasse, neuf minutes de bonheur à ne pas manquer.
