Daniel Aaron Rosenboom (Born 5 July 1982) is a creative trumpet artist, improviser, composer, and record producer who seeks break musical boundaries by fusing styles in new and inventive ways. For his compositions, he has been recognized with grants and awards from ASCAP, the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music, the American Composers Forum, and the Meet the Composer foundation, and was named the “Face To Watch” in Jazz for 2013 by the Los Angeles Times. Rosenboom has five full-length albums under his own name, the latest of which, Book of Omens, is slated for release on July 9th, 2013. Additionally, he has released three full-length albums with his “hardcore-Balkan-jazz-rock” group PLOTZ!, three full-length albums with his “spontaneous composition” jazz-rock group DR. MiNT, and has appeared as a featured collaborator on albums by Vinny Golia, Harris Eisenstadt, Trevor Anderies, Dorian Wood, David Rosenboom, RootSystem, Geoff Gallegos’s NineNet, Killsonic, Got Monk?, Crowhurst, and The Industrial Jazz Group.
Daniel has appeared as a soloist and collaborator on festivals and in recitals at the International Trumpet Guild’s annual conference, University of York, England, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the La Mama Theater in New York City, at REDCAT, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, California Institute of the Arts, the Eastman School of Music, the Hague Jazz Festival, the Midpoint Music Festival, Sounds Like Now: Interpretations at 15, and many others. With orchestras and chamber ensembles, he has appeared on such stages as Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Opera City in Tokyo, the Hollywood Bowl, and in music festivals all over the United States.
Daniel plays regularly with The Daniel Rosenboom Quintet and Septet, PLOTZ!, the Vinny Golia Sextet, DR. MiNT, and is a member of the Industrial Jazz Group, Robby Marshall’s RootSystem, Got Monk?, Geoff Gallegos’s NineNet, and the Modern Brass Quintet. As a classical free-lance musician and noted interpreter of modern and avant-garde music, he regularly performs with some of the elite groups and musicians in Los Angeles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, Monday Evening Concerts, Southwest Chamber Music, the Long Beach Opera, and many of the regional orchestras in the Los Angeles area. Additionally, he has recorded for television and film at most of the major sound stages in Los Angeles.
In January of 2013 he founded Creative Underground Los Angeles, a collective of musicians, visual artists, dancers, and writers focused on the rapid and conscreative, experimental artists.
Daniel holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, UCLA, and California Institute of the Arts and his teachers had included James Thompson, Jens Lindemann, Edward Carroll, Roy Poper, Wadada Leo Smith, John Fumo, Vinny Golia, Larry Koonse, and Miroslav Tadic. Other mentors have included Rosalina Sackstein, Roy Poper, Mark Gould, Markus Stockhausen, Thomas Stevens, Stephen Burns, and Gabrielle Cassoneistent production of high-quality, inter-disciplinary fringe art, and the galvanization of a thriving but often disperate scene of.
