AboutFeaturing Umezu on alto sax, with Kido Natsuki on guitar, mandolin & synth, Hayakawa Takeharu electric bass and Niida Kozo on drums. This studio effort was recorded in 2002 and again produced by Aki Onda. Umezu's powerful "Izumoya" opens and closes this disc and is another of those great hard rockin' ballads with an infectious melody and heart-wrenching solos from the electric guitar, alto sax and even some amazing electric bass. The Kiki Band excel at these type of songs that might sound too over-the-top coming from other less subtle bands that straddle fusion and hard-rock influences. Kido's "Crawler" is a great near-prog-like scorcher with another unforgettable riff played powerfully by the guitar and sax. Every solo on this disc is astonishing, these guys rarely let up and that goes for the electric bassist as well. Each piece here is dynamic and often throttling, always pushing these cats to their limits to play these complex yet hard prog-rocking tunes. Even when they slow things down (on "Genbu"), they provide with some great, sly, inspired melodies and solos. 'Land Dizzy' is a perfect blend of jazz, rock, prog, punk and funk influences that never resorts to any of the usual clichés found in these types of music. Never too complex for their own good, yet always intense, in-your-face and exciting.
