OTHELLO: Othello was recorded at the studios of Radio Sweden in Stockholm on November 3rd and 4th, 1967. The 23 man orchestra is composed of noted musicians from Swedish Jazz Circle (Bernet Rosengren-tenor sax, Rolf Eriksson-trumpet, Arne Domnerus-alto sax, et al.), augmented by musicians from the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and two Norwegian Jazz musicians that recently have won international recognition, Jon Christensen-drums, and Jan Garbarek-tenor sax. Garebarek, who is featured soloist on "Othello", is by most, recognized as the best and most versatile Norwegian saxophonist today. He won second place soloist award last year at the International Jazz Contest at Montreux. The recording engineer was Gote Nilsson of the Swedish Radio.
ELECTRONIC ORGAN SONATA NO.1: The basic material for the piece was improvised by George Russell on the grand organ of Grorud Church, Oslo, October 1st, 1968. The recording engineers were Norwegian Bjornar Andresen and Kеre Kolberg (both intensly active creators in their own right within avant-garde music). Technical work and final assemblage of the "Sonata" was performed in the electronic music studio of Radio Sweden with the assistance of engineer Gote Nilsson of that institution.
This album eould not have come into existence without the invaluable efforts of Marit Jerstad, treasurer of the Norwegian branch of the International Society of Contemporary Music, to secure clearances of all kind.
