The following twelve months saw the independent release of three EPs – each individual CD burned in iTunes, tagged with marker pen and posted by hand to friends, family and the occasional media flunky. Yet it wasn’t until Cyrus spent three months working as a journalist in Tehran that he came across the sound, not to mention many of the samples, that would ultimately inform the Twilight Kingdom LP. Tracks from the album have since have featured on numerous independent movies and snowboard flicks, and work has already begun on a collaborative project with lanky rootsman Smoke Feathers, whose vocals grace two of the tunes on Twilight Kingdom. When he’s not in his south London studio – a stone’s throw from the tree in which Blake saw his first angel – Cyrus writes for various magazines and newspapers on a range of subjects.
