I saw this line-up in Rotterdam, and it blew me away. With all respect to Dennis Chambers who is a great drummer I would have liked Dave Weckl. But this album is great anyway. When I just talked a second with Mike I told him about this album and he asked me how he sounded. I told "pretty good quality and a must for all Mike Stern fans". "Big smile" in return from Mike. It kicks off with a great old time Some Skunk Funk mainly featuring Michael and Randy. It funks man! Then a Mike Stern compostion Common Ground, beautiful ballad, although I would have liked to hear Mike's solo as Odds or Evens. Mike is opening, super chord progressions, great delay stuff, melancholic, about 5 minutes of excellence. As I said the best Mike Stern composition. In this performance it is featuring Michael and Randy. Then Spunch and then onto Song For Barry and Sherical both from The Return Of The Brecker Brothers. Man these songs are the business. It features all. But the soloing of Mike is incredible. I was at the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Statenhal went crazy after his solo. I have it on video and it still grips me. Song For Barry starts of with the amazing Michael Brecker on EWI. Man this is great! I do not know of any non-bootleg album where one can listen to this. The improvisation skills of the man are breath-taking. Electric solo guitar by Michael Brecker... picture it... It ends with the Mike Stern solo. Overdrive in the end. This kicks ass... Then Spherical... can't describe it. Listen to this stuff!! If you get a hand on this album... Buy it!... -- Ries van Schelven
