Recorded at A&R Recording Studio, New York City Recorded and mixed by Jim Anderson Mastered by Bob Ludwig at Masterdisk Produced by Bobby Previte Cover art: Ivan Chermayeff All compositions by Bobby Previte  PersonnelRay Anderson :: trombone Bill Frisell :: electric guitar, banjo Wayne Horvitz :: hammond organ, piano, harmonica Josh Dubin :: pedal steel guitar Carol Emanuel :: harp Guy Klucevsek :: accordion Joey Baron :: drums Jim Mussen :: electronic drums, sampling Bobby Previte :: drums, marimba, keyboards, drum machine, vocals  ReviewsAmazon.com—“Where most composers would have no idea of what to do with such a melange, Previte molds it into an unforgettable band that plays affirmative, unpredictable music.” The New York Times—“An often brilliant record, deep in resourcefulness, and sounds as if it is without precedent.” People Magazine—"Here is an album worthy of repeated listening, and it comes with the guarantee that you'll hear something new every time." Andy Warhol's Interview— “One of the finest compositions of the decade.” Also one of Previte’s personal favorites. A landmark CD.  1990 - Empty SuitsPrevite’s third record for Gramavision was a two guitar, keyboard, vocal, sampling, and trombone brew called “Empty Suits.” This CD started his relationship with the great engineer Joe Ferla, and marks a period when Previte’s interest in musicians like Salif Keita and King Sunny Adé (with tunes like, “The King So Far”) was at its zenith. Jazziz—“Empty Suits takes you someplace new, with jazz as the compass and the whole of music as a map. In short, another fine and beautiful mess from Previte.” The tune “Break the Cups” alone is worth the price, with an outrageous vocal by Roberta Baum, who had worked with Ornette Coleman for awhile. Recorded at Sorcerer Sound, New York City, May 1990 Recorded and mixed by Joe Ferla Mastered by Bob Ludwig at Masterdisk Produced by Bobby Previte Cover art: Ivan Chermayeff Cover photo: Sally Anderson-Bruce All compositions by Bobby Previte  PersonnelRobin Eubanks :: trombone, electronics Steve Gaboury :: hammond b-3 organ, piano, keyboard Jerome Harris :: electric bass, electric guitar, lap steel, vocals Allan Jaffe :: electric guitar Roberta Baum :: voice Carol Emanuel :: harp Marty Ehrlich :: alto saxophone Elliott Sharp :: guitar David Shea :: turntables Skip Krevens :: pedal steel guitar Bobby Previte :: acoustic and electronic drums, acoustic and electronic percussion, marimba, keyboard electronics, occasional guitar, vocals  1991 - Music of the Moscow CircusIn 1992 the Moscow Circus tracked Previte down on tour and commissioned him to create all the music for their new season, which opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theater. This music became the fourth Gramavision release, “Music of the Moscow Circus.” Written to accompany the various circus acts, this CD reads like a soundtrack for an aerial ballet, with everything from a classically inspired piano piece to a shredding electronic noisefest. Style: Contemporary Recorded at RPM Studios, New York, NY, August 1991 Recorded and mixed by Alec Head Produced by Bobby Previte Special thanks to Marina Golovchenko All compositions by Bobby Previte except "Thunder and Blazes" by Julius Fucik  PersonnelJerome Harris :: acoustic and electric guitar, vocals Mark Helias :: acoustic and electric bass, vocals Steve Gaboury :: piano, hammond organ, keyboards Carol Emanuel :: harp Mark Feldman :: violin Herb Robertson :: trumpet, pocket trumpet, cornet Roger Squitero :: percussion Bobby Previte :: drums  Reviews"The most unreal circus you will ever see, partly because of Previte’s haunting and audaciously impressionistic score.” —New York Newsday “The music is altogether extraordinary, from its opening conflagration of chattering brass to the suspended animation of its piano etudes.” — Buffalo News  1991 - Weather Clear, Track FastWhile signed to Gramavision Previte also began to record for the German label Enja. There were three records in which he returned to a horn front line (but this time four of them). The first of these “racetrack records,” released in 1991, was titled after the name of the band, “Weather Clear, Track Fast.” A truly all-star CD, it featured some of the heaviest “young lions” at the time—Don Byron, Graham Haynes, Robin Eubanks, Marty Ehrlich, Anthony Cox, and Anthony Davis (who later went on to compose the Opera “X”). A more fleshed out version of the earlier records, this is a very compositionally driven CD. Recorded January 7, 8, 1991, New York City Produced by Bobby Previte Mixed by Joe Ferla Executive producer: Matthias Winckelmann Cover photo: Aldo Mauro  PersonnelDon Byron :: clarinet, baritone saxophone Marty Ehrlich :: clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, flute Anthony Davis :: piano Robin Eubanks :: trombone Anthony Cox :: bass Graham Haynes :: cornet Steve Gaboury :: piano on (1) Bobby Previte :: drums  Reviews“Like all great jazz, it grows on every listening.” —Wire Magazine  1996 - Too Close to the Pole“Too Close To The Pole” was the final Weather Clear, Track Fast recording and in it Previte went even further along an almost choral/African direction, assembling a completely different band of musicians who at that time were very new to the New York scene, but who quickly became indispensable to it—musicians like Jamie Saft, Cuong Vu and Andy Laster . The CD, recorded in Germany, was released in 1996, and is the culmination of his writing with that orchestration. Previte has not written for a large front line since. Recorded April 27, 28, 29, 1996 at Marweg, EMI Studios, Cologne, Germany Mixed June 12, 13, 14 1996 at River Sound, New York Recorded and mixed by Joe Ferla Produced by Bobby Previte Executive producers: Ulrich Kurth and Matthias Winckelmann Band photo: David Sinclair Traycard and animal photgraphy: Bongo Monopoly (with a little help from Tom Varner) Design by Janene Higgins All compositions by Bobby Previte except "The Countess' Bedroom" from The Queen of Spades by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky  PersonnelLindsey Horner :: electric bass, tin whistle, voice Andy Laster :: baritone saxophone, clarinet, flute, voice Cuong Vu :: trumpet, voice Jamie Saft :: piano, fender rhodes electric piano, hammond organ, clavinet, voice Curtis Hasselbring :: trombone, voice Andrew D'Angelo :: alto saxophone, bass clarinet, voice Bobby Previte :: drums, voice  ReviewsThe New York Times—"His pieces slowly and carefully make their way to an incantory place where jubilation reigns.” The New Yorker— "His ensemble speaks in visionary tongues."
