TANGO REPORTER - "Y'a de la joie" par Serge Truffaut • Par un hasard tout ce qu'il y a de pur, on est tombé sur un bonheur dont la mécanique temporelle nous certifie qu'il s'étale sur 1 heure 14 minutes et un chapelet de nanosecondes. Il a un nom, le bonheur en question, The Best Small Jazz Bands. Autrement dit, en langue franc, il s'agit des meilleures petites formations jazz et non le meilleur des petites formations. Ce bonheur se présente sous la forme d'un double compact édité et publié par l'étiquette Frémeaux & Associés. • Mais encore? C'est bien simple, l'architecte de cette production, il s'appelle Jacques Morgantini, a rassemblé 36 perles poncées par Fats Waller, le chantre d'histoires parfois salaces, Arnett Cobb, Buddy Tate, Illinois Jacquet, le trop oublié Joe Thomas, soit les ténors tendance gros son, son long, Louis Armstrong, Cootie Williams, Roy Eldridge, Hot Lips Page, soit les trompettes de la renommée bien embouchée, Louis Jordan, Fats Domino, T-Bone Walker, soit les chanteurs qui nous signalent que «les femmes s'enflamment». Sont également de la partie, Art Tatum, Albert Ammons, Django Reinhardt, Bennie Goodman, Lionel Hampton, John Kirby, Roy Milton, lequel nous enseigne que les «nombres» ont eux aussi «le blues», et autres cantonniers de l'époque classique du jazz. • Les pièces choisies par Morgantini s'étalent de 1936 à 1955. On le répète, c'est du bonheur, d'obédience simple. On se régale, on se bidonne autant qu'en lisant Travelingue de Marcel Aymé ou Le beaujolais nouveau est arrivé du père Fallet, dit René. Toutes ces musiques sont autant de contradictions au spleen, au mal de vivre, au papoutage de nombril, qui affectent tant le petit-bourgeois et sa bourgeoise. De bout en bout, la cadence se confond avec chaloupée. • Pour cette copie d'occasion, on a déboursé 20 $. CQFD: on ne connaît pas le prix du neuf. Mais bon, comme on sait que Frémeaux & Associés ont un représentant de ce côté-ci de l'Atlantique, il est facile de le commander chez votre disquaire habituel. Achetez-le! Ça vaut son pesant d'or.
