Об альбоме
The Intimacy of the Bass features the two masters in a variety of combinations: parallel harmony, counterpoint, solo lead with walking or rhythm pattern accompaniment, duo ad-lib... you name it.
They've taken the time to arrange the music in advance so that the performances come off with a sense of form as well as jazz freedom. "Lotus Blossom" is a lovely arco duet. On "Quasimodo" the bassists play in harmony like two frontline horns. On "Sweet Loraine" they swap the melody and accompaniment with an ease and sensitivity that heighten the fluid sense of swing as the performance progresses. And, make no mistake, these cats swing! An exemplary session. By Owen Cordle
