Whether or not this trio works together regularly is not disclosed in the 'notes' which again consist of a list of names of people not actually on the record. ("Our thanks to . . Heather and Wayne at M. and M. Star Bar and Grill" is typical; is this some kind of code, I wonder?) The music is much better; Lerner and Roy work extremely well together especially with the guest appearance on all tracks of that outstanding American drummer Peter Erskine (late Stan Kenton and Weather Report) and vibraphonist Stefan Bauer on Quarter To Three and Gridlock. The music takes on the quality of a more muscular MJQ at times but that is only a superficial resemblance; Marilyn and Larry are first rate players and there is an obvious enjoyment manifested in their version of Sonny Rollins's attractive Si Thomas.-- ALUN MORGAN ...
