(in the inevitable ones-to-watch-for-2010 feature), the paper described her band's music as "a universally comprehensible whirl of jazz, raggle-taggle folk and Eastern European influences". Those 12 words pretty much nailed the spirited noise this bunch make, although Gabby's own description - 'circus swing' - also takes care of their clear predilection for the big top. With bright scarlet hair and a vibrant dress sense to challenge all but the most powerful sunglasses, Gabby is certainly no shrinking violet. But while those torch-singer vocals take centre-stage, her Other Animals band isn't slow in coming forward either, its collective paws clutching an array of instruments including trombone, accordion, trumpet, mandolin, banjo and clarinet. Bold, bawdy and brilliant, exuberance is the order of the day at a Gabby Young gig. Expect very little navel-gazing here. (Biography written by Nige Tassell 2010)  Об альбоме (сборнике)A gloriously cheerful live performer with an entertaining jumble of styles that match her flamboyant image, Gabby Young could easily be dismissed as a good-time novelty act best suited to parties and festivals. There are certainly furiously upbeat songs here, from the opening In Your Head to the stomping title track, but they only work so well because there's skill, technique and bravery mixed in with her energy. She has the power, clarity and precision of an opera diva – at 12, she was the youngest member of the National Youth Choir – but she is also an impressive jazz singer, as she shows on Clay Heart and the gospel-edged Open. This is her second album, and it's filled with often unexpectedly thoughtful, sophisticated songs that continually switch direction, from cool guitar, accordion or piano-backed balladry to furious trumpet and trombone-backed workouts.
